BC TRIP 2013

It's been a long time since last blog between work and computer problems time has gone fast so a few catch up posts are in order. This past August we went out to Salt Spring Island BC for a family wedding. One doesn't go out there and not hunt nature. Before the wedding we took a 6 hour gulf island kayak tour. The guide we had was great Chris and I told him we love looking at birds but anything would be good as we had never been out here before. First thing we saw and it actually bumped Chris's kayak and looked up from below the water at him was a Harbour seal they are amazing creatures.
The best part of the tour was getting within 20 feet of a Black oyster catcher!! They are truly a beautiful bird
The whole family had never seen the pacific ocean so a hunt at low tide was in order first we found sea anenomes in a tidal pool along with starfish I even held one as Chris said I had to feel its texture. The neatest thing is when you lifted or touched any rocks hundreds of little crabs went scurrying everywhere.
We found this crab and all thought it funny it had a happy face on the shell.
I am still wondering how Rob and Chris got me in the zodiac boat to go whale watching not a big fan of small boats I am not controlling! The thrill was amazing we got the call whales had been sighted and to get to the dock.we all got suited up and headed out we went almost down to Washington to catch the whales. Ian our guide was excellent he seemed to know where the whales would surface as by law you have to stay 300 feet from them. Here is a few shots of them.
In the week on the island we pretty much covered all the Provincal parks. During our hiking at Ruckle we found this sea otter playing on the rocks.
The trip was over to soon here are a few other shots taken during the week
