THREE OWL DAY!!!!!
Since the day was warm and sunny which is nice for a change birding was in order.
Drove along the river towards Sombra and found a large group of Mute Swans near Bentpath Line there was also Redheads, Scaups and Mallards.
We turned onto the 40 and headed back by way of Bickford Line to Kimbell Side Road. There was quite an assortment of Hawks Rough legged and RedTail Hawks and even a couple of Harriers.
I decided to checkout Perch Creek for the Long Earred Owl and Saw Whet that have been there lately.
The Long earred was a no show but the Saw Whet was there and was in a great mood to be photographed and allowed me to get these shots.
We bumped into Dave Bourne while at Perch Creek and he had just come from taking photos of a Snowy owl that was in the solar farm along Blackwell Sideroad. Chris and I had no trouble finding it or should i say it found us.
While scanning the solar panels Chris looked up and right near us the owl was sitting up on the hydro pole.
Anne and Gennie were also there as we caught up with them. All three of us got real close to it and on scanning the field we found another one sitting on a panel.
We thought that was the highlight of the day until Chris said Hey look out there and soaring was three Short Earred owls flying over the solar panels and they landed. Since I had never seen one before it was awesome and Anne got out her scope for a close up view. They were a long ways away but i still tried for a photo proof.
So for a couple hours birding we saw some great things
